According to the guidelines of the Spanish Society of Arteriosclerosis (2022), levels above 50 mg/dl are considered high cardiovascular risk. This implies that, even if other parameters are within the normal range, the risk of cardiovascular events may be underestimated if Lp(a) is not taken into account. In these cases, a more intensive approach to control other risk factors such as LDL-cholesterol, blood pressure and lifestyle may be necessary.
