Innovation and technology for gender equality

“Technological innovation and change, and education in the digital age to achieve gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls”.”

We remember 8 March for the commemoration of International Women's Day. Every 8th March since 1917, women, whether separated by national borders and ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political differences, unite on this day to proclaim equality, justice, peace and development.

This year, the theme will be innovation and technological change and education in the digital age to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. The goals affecting gender equality in the sector need transformative changes, with integrated approaches and innovative solutions.

The United Nations celebration of International Women's Day recognises and honours women, girls, women's organisations and feminists who are fighting for the advancement of transformative technology and access to digital education.

Women have played a very important role in the world of technology and innovation. Did you know that the first software in history was dreamt up by a woman? Great advances and achievements in world history have been the result of the work of women. women in technology. Without their work we would probably not know the world as it is today. Therefore, we would like to commemorate the involvement of women in the world of technology and medicine by compiling some of the women who have contributed the most to these disciplines, showing that perhaps they have been more invisible, but no less active, some of them, such as:

Marie Curie It is difficult to talk about the role of women in science without mentioning Marie Curie. This Polish physicist reinvented physics with the discovery of polonium in 1898 and, a little later, radium, which she managed to isolate. Curie not only brought about a new vision in the field, but also opened up avenues hitherto closed to her sex: she was the first woman to hold a professorship at the École Normale Supérieure and the first woman to be appointed to a chair at the École Normale Supérieure. pioneer to win a Nobel Prize in both physics and chemistry..

Ada Lovelace Although he lived in the 19th century, his ideas were determinants for the computer sector and thus for many of the computer applications that today help to save lives in the healthcare environment. Although he investigated numerous lines of research, he was mainly responsible for the first algorithm created for a machine. His idea that these computers could perform more functions than computational operations sowed the seeds of much of the technology we know.

Rosalind Franklin The molecular biology research that dominates the laboratories would be very different without its Photo 51, a snapshot of DNA which he took with X-ray diffraction in 1951.

Emmy Noether Formulated the theorem bearing his name, He was fundamental in understanding the theory of relativity and the link between the laws of conservation and the dynamics of systems. In addition, he contributed greatly to the field of physics and algebra with research such as that of the ring theory e was one of only two women of her time to study at the University of Erlangen.

Transformative gender mainstreaming in innovation, technology and digital education is helping women and girls become more aware of their rights and empowering them to exercise their rights and activism. The development of inclusive digital education and transformative technology is therefore a fundamental requirement for a sustainable future, as will be celebrated this 8 March under the theme «For an Inclusive Digital World: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality».
